If you are struggling to read the Bible consistently or having a hard time understanding what you are reading, this is a page of resources that I hope will be helpful for you! I (Healey) struggled for a lot of years barely reading much more than the red words of the Bible because it seemed so overwhelming.
The benefit of being a born-again Christian is that we have the Holy Spirit to help us understand. So don't feel overwhelmed. God will meet you in the pages! Thankfully, the Bible was written for everyone....from the most educated scholar to the person who hasn't graduated High School. His Word is for all of us!
As you may have noticed there are a lot of different versions of the Bible out there. It can be difficult to navigate all of them. I have provided links to two videos below that I think will help you understand how Bibles are translated and the differences in functional and formal translations. I have summarized the list of well-translated Bibles below, but I encourage you to watch the videos so that you will understand why these translations are good and why it is helpful to use more than one.
NKJV, ESV, NIV, CSV, NASB, NET, NLT
There are so many ways to read the Bible. Below are some links to some different reading plans. I encourage you to do one (at least once) that guides you through the entire Bible. Reading the whole Bible is so helpful in understanding context and seeing Jesus throughout scripture, not just the New Testament. You can find some reading plan resources at the bottom of the page.
Here are some resources that I have found helpful over the years:
Features the best Bible translations and why!
Yes, there are some bad Bible translations.
Learn why to avoid these 'Bibles'.
As you read the BIble, it is helpful to have resources to help you. The Bible Project creates quality content to help you understand the Bible and each book better. Check out this video as an introduction!
The Bible is revelent and essential for all Christians. The more we read and study the Bible, the more we can know God and trust Him.
Ligonier Ministries has lots of different reading plans. The plans are each unique with a different outlines based on how you best read. You can read through the Bible in a year or focus on one particular book. I would encourage you to look up some videos from LIgonier Ministries, specifically R.C. Sproul to help you understand the Bible with sound knowledge.
This is a great app to have on your phone so that you are able to access it at any time. If you click on the "Plans" tab, they will provide many different Bible reading plans. I prefer the Chronological One-Year Bible Reading Plan. I have completed it several years and always learn and see new things.
This is another great way to read the Bible through in a year chronologically. The host, Tara-Leigh Cobble offers a daily podcast or a print recap each day of the year. She helps readers understand the scripture read that day as well as being a great encourager to help you stay committed to the reading plan.
